How corporate events are helping to support military families

Giving something back is good for your soul and giving makes you feel happy. There are countless studies that confirm this including one from Harvard Business School professor Michael Norton and colleagues who found that giving money to someone else lifted participants’ happiness more that spending it on themselves (despite participants’ prediction that spending on themselves would make them happier).

Giving something back also makes business sense. Business owners often get so caught up in the bottom line that they forget about the positive impact they can make on their community and those in need. Having a corporate CSR plan can create a sense of unity among a team and is a great reminder to be thankful for what we have.

Meeting and event planners holding their events at the Victory Services Club (VSC) are giving something back. All revenue from events held here at our central London venue is pumped back into our charity. The VSC was founded in 1907 by Major Arthur Haggard who had a clear mission: to promote ‘esprit de corps’ within the military, by uniting members of the Armed Forces when he witnessed destitute veterans on London’s streets after returning from the Second Boer War.

Today the VSC is a prestigious military members club offering accommodation, dining and respite for members of the Armed Forces. It is the only club solely for all ranks of the military and welcomes current and former members of UK, Commonwealth and NATO Armed Forces. Major Haggard’s vision of supporting members of the military is still very much alive over 100 years on and remains at the heart of the Club’s ethos.

From providing free membership for all serving regulars and reservists of the UK Armed Forces and their partners to relieving the need, hardship or distress among persons who have served in the Armed Forces of the Crown and their dependants, the VSC works hard to fulfil its charitable objectives.

We offer respite and welfare breaks for nominated personnel recovering from injuries sustained on Operational Service or those facing a significant welfare issues, a reward and recognition scheme for nominated personnel across all ranks who have gone above and beyond in their line of duty and are recommended to the club and a haven for heroes offering an exclusive 50% discount on our room rates for UK Armed Forces personnel on mid-operational or post-operational tour leave from a deployment overseas.
