Creative menu ideas for your wedding

Creating a wedding menu can seem like a daunting task. How do you come up with something tasty, exciting and different that caters to everyone’s needs and is in budget? From large weddings of 100 plus to smaller intimate receptions, we’ve put together our tips for creating memorable menus that fit the bill.

Work closely with the venue

Venues have years of experience creating the perfect wedding menus for their guests. Ask them what has worked in the past and any suggestions they may have. Give the venue as much information as you can about your requirements and take advice from the chef who will be able to suggest which flavours complement each other and which don’t.

Do some research

Wedding magazines and websites are a great resource when planning your special day and most will have features on wedding food ideas. Many also have great forums on their websites where you can chat to other couples about what worked for them.

Try something different

Don’t be afraid to try something different to wow your guests. From theming the food and serving up fish and chips or sausage and mash to changing the format from a sit-down meal to a barbecue or street food stand, there are lots of subtle ways of experimenting with something different.

Consider going seasonal

Seasonal menus with locally sourced produce are very on trend this year and give a great story to share with you guests. Seasonal produce also tastes better. For example; fresh strawberries work well in a summer menu and spring onions and asparagus a winter menu.

Follow the trends

Fancy an afternoon tea or hog roast at your wedding? These are two trends which have exploded in popularity in the last 10 years and have also become popular at weddings. Afternoon tea is a great way to treat your guests to something pretty and mouth-watering and hog roasts work well for an evening reception to keep everyone going into the early hours.
